So here i am in new orleans. it's a really interesting city... the only one that i've ever heard of that is useless during the day, but alive and pretty cool at night. also, it's november, and it's 85 degrees and humid. weird.
i'm here on a business trip, so i'm not getting to see as much of it as jenny is. i did make it down to bourbon street twice so far, once on the night before halloween and once on halloween eve. it's crazy - the costumes, the sheer amount of alcohol, and uh.. the costumes (or lack thereof). i really had a great time walking down the street and just gawking.
i also tried african food for the first time. i've had morrocan and ethiopian food before, but this was something completely different. it was more middle-to-southern africa, and the spice combination was something which i had absolutely no basis for comparison. when i was a kid, i was super finicky and wouldn't eat anything. then in high school something clicked, and i went and tried almost everything shy of internal organs. even during that phase, i never even touched on something like what i just ate tonight. I was pretty sure that after giving up animals, animal products, sugar, and most fat, that my days of trying anything new were over. Shows what happens when you hit a new city.
Anyway, i think i get most of wednesday and all of thursday to check out the rest of the city, and i'm looking forward to it. so, as they say on gizmodo, more after the jump.
