  all sorts of stuff

well, to start out with, i'm really happy w/ this strip. it feels like i'm in the middle of one of my transition periods where i'm making a fairly significant jump in style and execution. the coloring and shading for this one only took 8 hours or so - it's the bluelines and inks that took 12 hours (had to get the beemer *just* right). i'm really jazzed about the rain effect, and super happy w/ the car. drawing the M5 really made me want one - too bad bmw doesn't make them anymore. the license plate reads "homer" - first one to figure it out gets a gold star.

i got a frivolous toy for my computer - the cooler master aerogate II. i needed to spend a $100 gift card, and i wanted it to be on something that i'd never spend real money on, but wanted - the aerogate was a perfect fit. i'll have some pics up during the day monday.

i'm totally hooked on the sopranos. not enough hooked to get tv, but enough to rent all the dvd's. i know everyone i'm behind the times, but it's a really good show. i also saw the pilot for "out of order" - that's really awesome too - too bad they don't have episodes on dvd.

i'm finishing up fire emblem for the gba - i really love that game. the first impression wasn't all that great (mainly because of the battle scene graphics), but after giving it a chance, i fell in love with it. for starters... your characters can DIE - that's right, you don't just mindlessly plow through it... strategy matters. they continue to be able to die throughout the game. you never really achieve immense amounts of hit points, and the enemies get stronger in relation to you. you have to work hard to upgrade your characters, and you never just have one ass-beater that is awesome in all situations. a lot of thought went into the gameplay on this one, and i'm really grateful for it.

off to watch some sopranos.

enough blue LED's to choke a horse

as promised, here are the pics. clicking on the thumbnails will open a new window with a larger pic in it - the pics are each about the same weight as a strip (~100K), which ought to take a minute or two on dialup.

  You'll be missed ...

One of the most obvious tragedies in life is that it has to end. Honestly though, the single worst part is that you have to watch so many of the people you care about go before you. Then you are left to plod on, with a void in your heart that never fully heals. The pain and loss will lessen with time, but they never truly go away.

Its so cliched, but the things that remain unspoken in life really need to be shared. Even in the face of looming inevitability, the human capacity for denial and procrastination is astounding.

Life doesn't really provide you with an appropriate opportunity to grieve either. Jobs offer 'bereavement leaves' but they don't really open that door. The work still needs to get done. Bills still need to be paid, questions answered, the accountability chain is unbroken. The world, as they say, keeps turning. There is no pause, no rewind, no control.

There might be more to share later. This is still far to fresh for me. There are so many things that I must do today. The time to grieve will come, but it isn't now.

Objective #1 for today is to simply get through.
