new computer

well, the new box is here, and this is the first strip i completed on it. notice a difference?
as with all new computers, there were a few kinks to work out (mainly bios settings), but over all i'm really happy with it. the cooler master case is really awesome looking, and just loading things on is taking no time at all... xp estimated 48 minutes to install - i think it took 12. i have no idea what i'm going to do with 10 USB ports, but better too many than not enough. i've yet to try maya on it, which is where the graphics card is really going to shine, but it seems to do a great job with photoshop (though not AS great as i was hoping for in some areas). anyway, it'll probably be 6 months before i start whining about needing a new computer again :)
this strip took a long time... more the motivation factor than the actual execution. not sure what it is about vacations, but i tend to slow way down. i'm particularly happy w/ the piranha in panel 6, and the way the flashback in panel 4 came out.
rented a couple of movies - agent cody banks was better than i expected, but still could have used help. hulk sucked nuts. if it wanted to be a summer blockbuster, it was lacking far too many effects shots, was way too slow, and had too much inner conflict and dialogue. if it wanted to be a serious look at the character, then it was way too campy and cartoony and didn't go deep enough or serious enough. after watching return of the king, the hulk looked (at best) like a ray harryhausen character, and at worst, more like an extremely low budget effect rendered out of 3d studio v3. there were some cool things about it, but not nearly enough for me to enjoy the movie.
'till next time

Ho Ho Ho, Merry ... oh screw it ...

Whoever coined the phrase, "home is where the heart is, " all I have to say is 'heart' my ass.
Christmas is a time if year where family tensions come out to be dealt with. There is no quieting them, and no escaping them. Invariably they first start rearing their heads in a ridiculously long checkout line, or sitting in a line of traffic trying to get to, or away from, the retail outlet of your choosing. There are so many reasons to hate Christmas, and I routinely battle with that desire. There are bright spots though, and reasons to keep going. Not just paper-wrapped boxes under a dying fir tree. If a few things don't change soon, I will hate Christmas. Not this year though.
